A Weekend in Paris

"Weekend Reposant à Paris" - A Restful Weekend in Paris
Story and Photos by Kayra Martinez (FRASW)

Every time I have been to Paris in the past, I have spent most of my time inside the Louvre museum or in the Musee d'Orsay. I've also enjoyed walking the quaint streets of the city while taking many photos, however, it has always been "on the go".

This time, I decided to do it differently. I was invited by a good friend of mine, Alexandra for her birthday party in Paris, so I decided to make this trip a very relaxed weekend.

First, we began celebrating her birthday by toasting champagne with friends at her apartment. Later, we continued this celebration by dancing at the famous "Queen" discotheque and by sipping more champagne. The Queen is a Parisian gay club that has been opened for many years and has a mixed crowd. Every night they have a "theme" night and on Mondays, it's Disco night.

The following day, we went to Hugos, a neighborhood French Cafe that serves traditional French cuisine for a memorable lunch. We ordered Confit de Canard (Duck Confit) for a main course and Creme Brulee for a dessert followed by a nice cup of coffee. Along the way, I took some nice photos of the Eiffel Tower (see photos enclosed) and made time for some "lèche vitrines" or window shopping!

A special treat during the week end was our lunch at the Cafe del'Homme. This is a wonderful restaurant in a magical place located in an exclusive setting in front of the Eiffel Tower. I think it's a popular lunch place for politicians, actors and such and it has an attractive menu of fish, meats and pasta plus some amazing desserts. The entrees can be a little pricey with some costing around 35Euros each, but they are definitely worth it. The cafe boasts large crystal chandeliers, a stunning view of the Eiffel tower and of course, amazing food!

Before heading for the airport for my return home, I made a quick last stop at the luxurious and popular shop Franck et Fils - "a tiny women’s department store that caters to the chic ladies of the 16th with luxury brands like Tods, Burberry and Chanel - On the top floor, there's is a little café for lunch or afternoon tea" - for a little shopping and Voila! my best weekend in Paris thus far!

Enjoy,
Kayra
